Compund Caries with a twist
Stage 1. The Discovery
Patient Presented to the operative clinic at Ain shams university complaining of sudden pain in her lower teeth. Upon examination caries were found related to her lower right 6 & it was also suspected that the patient suffers from MIH judging from the caries pattern she presented with.
Stage 2. Plan & Action
The plan was to undergo selective caries removal obtaining a proper peripheral seal & minimizing hard tissue loss to allow for proper restoration of the tooth.
Stage 3. The twist
After caries excavation was done, various methods were proposed to enhance the bonding to the hypomineralized enamel including the use of sodium hypo chloride or Chlorohexidine. However, further research proved that the results of such treatment were insignificant.
Stage 4. Restored & ready to go
A composite restoration was placed after proper bonding protocol and the patient was very happy with the results.
